Famous chanson-folk-easy listening singer during 1930's - 1940's ✰ June 2nd, 1898, Gubernia Herson, Russian Empire ✞ July 16, 1954, Târgu Ocna, România A popular Romanian singer, actor, and restaurateur of Russian origin in the interwar period, Leshtchenko became a Romanian citizen after Bessarabia returned to Romania in 1918. He owned the Leșcenco Bar on Victoria Avenue in Bucharest, Romania. Leshtchenko performed almost exclusively in Russian and made many tours abroad to Paris, London, Vienna, Belgrade, and Riga. Arrested in 1951, Leshtchenko was held at the Danube-Black Sea channel and died in a prison hospital in Târgu Ocna.
