    Spillemændene

Danish 1970's folk- and folkrock group from Aarhus. Formed as "De Fortabte Spillemænd" in June 1971 but were asked to change their name when De Fortabte Spillemænd from Copenhagen released an album in late 1971.

Spillemændene were pioneers in playing electric Danish fiddle music and also played an important role in the start-up of the alternative musician-driven booking agency Musikernes Kontakt in Aarhus. When Sven Foged and Lars Hybel from Jackie Boo Flight joined the band in 1974, the music became more country and rock based. Spillemændene was a popular live band in Aarhus and the rest of Denmark. They played warm-up for Fairport Convention and Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show, played at Roskilde Festival 1974, and toured with Shit & Chanel in 1975 and 1976.
