Peter Panka

About

German lead singer, drummer and composer in the Krautrock era, born March 3, 1948 in Hannover, died June 28, 2007 in Wennigsen.

In 1966, he started as vocalist of The JP's, the predecessor of Jane, which was co-founded by him in 1970. In that band, he also performed as drummer. Panka was one of two steady members of the band. In the early 1990's, Klaus Hess and Panka started a lawsuit about the usage of the name Jane. In 1994, the court decided, that none of them is allowed to play music under that name anymore, but the name has to be equipped with additional words. Eventually, the band, Panka was leading, was renamed to be Peter Panka's Jane. He led the band under this name until his death in 2007. After his death, the band took over the name Werner Nadolny's Jane.
