American rhythm and blues bandleader, pianist, record company executive, producer and songwriter, born January 29, 1920 in Kentwood, Louisiana; died March 26, 1991 in Los Angeles, California (bleeding ulcers).
Leader of one of the most popular New Orleans orchestras in the 40s Paul Gayten was also the nephew of Little Brother Montgomery. He led a varied career in the music business as producer, label owner, and one-time overseer of the West Coast operation of Chess Records.
