American tenor singer and songwriter in the early 20th century.
Born on February 8, 1890 in Syracuse, NY. Died on January 3, 1976 in Indio, CA.
He recorded prolifically, primarily in the vaudeville style, he also recorded for a number of prominent jazz musicians (Bix Beiderbecke, The Dorsey Brothers, etc.) and many dance bands.
He had two brothers Jack Kaufman and Phillip Kaufman; who had created a vaudeville act some years earlier. When Phil died (1918) and Irving had just left the Avon Comedy Four, he joined Jack to continue the family duo.
He used many alias during his audio career; among the names he adopted were: Vel Veteran, Tom Frawley, Ray Wynn, Jim Andrews or Robert Wood, but these pseudonyms were also used by other singers. Married to Belle Brooks.
