Born: May 25, 1877, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Died: August 17, 1954, Jones Beach, New York Murray was the best-selling recording artist of his time in the United States, selling over 300 million records during the phonograph era. While he received star billings in Vaudeville, he was best known for his prolific work in the recording studio, making records for almost every record label of the era. He charted 120 times (all but two in the top 10) on the U.S. charts between 1903 and 1925, including fifteen #1 songs.
