Blues violinist and singer, born January 24, 1904 in Michigan, Mississippi, died February 18, 1956 in Memphis, Tennessee (stroke).
Batts settled in Memphis 1919, often working with Jack Kelly from 1925, backed Frank Stokes on six titles in 1929, and recorded with Jack Kelly in 1933 and (probably) again in 1939. Two private recordings made in Cleveland in 1954 were his last known.
