Danish Operatic Tenor and Actor Born: July 30, 1937, Copenhagen, Denmark Died: February 3, 2024 Tonny Landy was renowned for his significant contributions to opera and acting. The son of company representative Kay Nuppenau and Monna Jensen, he married opera singer and actress [a=Tove Hyldgaard], forming a celebrated musical duo that delighted audiences for many years. Landy's operatic debut came in 1966 at the Royal Theater in Copenhagen as Alfredo in "La Traviata," marking the beginning of a luminous career that saw him performing at various esteemed opera houses, including in Lübeck and Göteborg, before becoming a permanent fixture at the Royal Theater from 1978 to 1994. Here, he graced the stage in over 700 performances across 40 different productions. From 1980 to 1994, Landy served as the Intendant of the Opera Academy in Copenhagen and taught singing at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen and the Jutland Conservatory of Music in Aarhus. His expertise also led him to appear as an opera and vocal expert on Danish TV station DK4, where he contributed to the series "Sangernes Værksted" (Singers' Workshop). Beyond his operatic endeavors, Landy made his mark as an actor, featuring in several Danish films and TV series, showcasing his versatile talent. In 1977, he was knighted as a Knight of the Order of the Dannebrog, recognizing his outstanding service to Danish arts. His filmography includes roles in "Krystalbarnet" (1996), "Blomsterfangen" (1996), "Tro" (TV series, 1997), "Den blå munk" (1998), "Dybt vand" (1999), "Deep Water - Im Sog der Angst" (1999), "Olsenbandens første kup" (Danish Christmas series, 1999-2000), and more. Landy's life and career were chronicled in his autobiography, "En sangers liv" (A Singer's Life), published by Aschehoug in Copenhagen in 1999, providing insight into the life of one of Denmark's most beloved tenors.
