The Versatiles were formed in 1967 by Byles, Earl and Davis and had their debut with "Just Can't Win" released on [r10847701].
They entered the Jamaican Song Festival in 1968 with "The Time Has Come", but finally they did not win the award. The song "Lu-Lu Bell", recorded in the end of 1969, was their last song as trio for the time being since Byles left the group to pursue a solo career as King Chubby and Junior Byles.
As duo, The Versatiles had a few recordings released on Soul Sounds label. In 1974 The Versatiles reunited and recorded i.a. "Cutting Razor" with Lee Perry.
In the mid-seventies, the group disbanded forever, where Byles continued to pursue his solo career.
Not to be confused with The Versatiles and The Versatiles from UK performing in early 70s.
