'The Blue Lyres' were members of the Ambrose & His Orchestra who were at their height of popularity in the 1930s. The band was created by band-leader Bert Ambrose who secured a residency at the Embassy Club and May Fair Hotel. The Dorchester also hosted them. The Blue Lyres or Ambrose Orchestra acquired the top Saturday night spot for BBC radio broadcasts and had royalty among its fans.
