South African musician born in Orlando West, Soweto on November 2nd, 1951. Young Sipho was recruited by [a1738782] to join the band The Beaters whilst a drummer for the school's cadets team. Upon Ntuli's death in 1978, he took over leadership of the band - which by then had renamed itself to Harari. Going solo after the band's demise and a competent multi-instrumentalist in his own right (drums, flute, piano, saxophone, kalimba, alto flute, timbales and African drums), his biggest commercial hit remains 1985's Burn Out. In 1992 his Chant Of The Marching album was banned. He remains an active mentor for other young artists.
