Patti Day originated from Washington D.C., initially honing her musical skills as part of a band before embarking on a solo career. In 1986, she caught the attention of Starway Records, leading to her signing with the label. Under their banner, Day recorded her debut album "Desire," produced by Steve Cropper, renowned for his work with The Blues Brothers. Although "Desire" remained unreleased, two singles from the album, "Desire" and "Private Property," (remixed by John Luongo) saw limited release in Australia. Day's breakthrough arrived with the club hit "Right Before My Eyes" in 1988, a collaboration with songwriters Michael Zager and Alexandra Forbes, with Zager also handling production duties. The track's infectious energy propelled it to prominence, the song was remixed by Frank Heller and Bruce Forrest, solidifying its status as a club classic, particularly in 1991 when it gained widespread attention through bootlegs circulating in the UK. "Right Before My Eyes" not only showcased Day's vocal prowess but also became a defining symbol of her musical style. The fruitful partnership between Day and Michael Zager extended to her subsequent album, "Love Crazy." Zager's production expertise further amplified Day's artistry, resulting in a collection of singles including "Drive Me," "Inch By Inch," and "No One." The latter, "No One," was remixed by Alan Coulthard in 1990, adding another layer of depth to Day's repertoire and reinforcing her presence in the late '80s music scene. Venturing into cover territory, Day released her rendition of Donna Summer's classic "Hot Stuff" in 1991, marking her last single to date. Produced by Day herself alongside the late Alan Coulthard, this endeavour underscored Day's versatility as an artist.
