Mimi Roman

American C&W singer-songwriter. Born April 20, 1935 in Salinas, California. Née Miriam Lappolito, then Mimi Rothman (after her mother’s remarriage), and finally Mimi Roman.

In March 1954, she appeared on the famed Arthur Godfrey Talent Scout show. In September 1954 she was crowned "Queen of the Rodeo" at Madison Square Garden. This led to a recording contract for Decca Record, where she was managed by Eddie White. She joined WLW Radio in Cincinnati, Ohio as part of the cast of the Midwestern Hayride, replacing Mary Jane Johnson.
For a while, Mimi was a part of Pee Wee King's band [a2220792].

In 1956, she finished in the Top Ten for Best Female Singer and Best New Female Singer. In June of 1956, The Disc Jockeys named her the number two Best New Female Singer.
She toured extensively for 18 months with the Phillip Morris Country Music Show. During the 1960's and 1970's she remained in New York, doing commercials, and worked as an extra in movies such as "Tootsie" and "All That Jazz".

After marrying singer/writer [a240413] in 1961 and having a daughter, Eden, the couple divorced and Mimi moved to Connecticut. The 1980s found her hosting a radio show in Bridgeport and performing in local clubs on the weekends. She stopped performing in 1985.
