American country singer-songwriter and autoharp player.

Born June 23, 1929, in Maces Spring, Virginia; died May 15, 2003, in Nashville, Tennessee.
Second child of Ezra J. Carter and Maybelle Carter, sister of Anita Carter and Helen Carter, with whom she performed as a member of The Carter Family starting at age 10. On March 1, 1968, June married country singer-songwriter Johnny Cash, with whom she had performed since 1964. Continued to be professionally known as June Carter even after their marriage.
Her biggest hit, co-written with Merle Kilgore, was Johnny Cash's 1963 version of "Ring Of Fire," though the song was originally recorded by June's sister, Anita Carter.
