Sister of June Carter and Helen Carter. Daughter of Maybelle Carter.
She charted 5 times on the U. S. charts between 1966 and 1971, the highest being at #41 country with "Tulsa County". She also charted as a songwriter twice: first with "I'm Gonna Leave You", which she sung in 1966 (co-written with sister Helen Carter) and "Rosanna's Going Wild" by Johnny Cash, which hit #2 country (co-written with sisters June Carter Cash and Helen Carter).
She charted twice with duets with Hank Snow: "Down the Trail of Achin' Hearts" and "Bluebird Island", both in 1951, charted at #2 and #4 respectively, on the U. S. country charts [by Hank Snow (The Singing Ranger) with Anita Carter and the Rainbow Ranch Boys]. She also charted with a duet with Waylon Jennings with "I Got You" in 1968 it rose to #4 on the country charts.
She married fiddler Dale Potter in 1950 (marriage was annulled shortly thereafter), session musician Don Davis in 1953 (divorced and then remarried), and Bob Wootton (lead guitarist for Johnny Cash's band The Tennessee Three) in 1974 (divorced).
