Swedish riksspelman and composer, born May 2nd, 1885 in Bergsjö, Gävleborgs län, and died January 8th, 1968 in Meselefors, Västerbottens län.
Öst was one of Sweden's most prominent fiddlers for many years and composed over 100 melodies, the most famous of which is Fiolen min. He set the tone during the fiddler's movement around the turn of the century in 1900 and was involved in forming fiddler's associations and fiddler's meetings and fiddler's competitions in various places in the country.
Jon-Erik Öst is father of Eric Öst, Anna Öst, Carl Öst, Eddy Öst, and Ivan Thelmé.
