Favorite
Jamaican-Canadian soul and gospel artist.
Born in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, Banton became known to the public for his 1970s work with The Grace Thrillers. He immigrated to Canada in the late 1970s and embarked on a soul career, earning him many hits and even a Juno nomination in 1986. He returned to gospel music in the 1990s and now performs exclusively in that genre.
Note that the credit "G. Banton" on Canadian reggae records may also refer to Gertie Banton.
