Georg Fürst

German composer (1870-1936), best known for his 'Badenweiler Marsch'. Fürst was Obermusikmeister of the Royal Bavarian Infantry Life Regiment (Leib-Regiment) from 1911-1919 and composed numerous popular marches. His "Badonviller Marsch" (thus the original title) commemorated a battle his Bavarian regiment fought again French troops at Badonviller on August 2, 1914. After World War 1, when Fürst became the band director of the 1st Battalion of the 19th (Bavarian) Infantry Regiment in Munich, it became that regiment's Regimental Quick March.
