Donald aka Don Buchla (born April 17, 1937, South Gate, California, USA - died September 14, 2016, Berkeley, California, USA) was an American pioneer in the field of sound synthesizers. The inventor of the Buchla modular synthesizer which was used by Ken Kesey, Morton Subotnick, Allen Strange and many others. He was one of the first to design voltage controlled synthesizers, doing so independently and at the same time as his east coast counterpart Robert Moog. Primarily an engineer, he occasionally made music himself, such as in The Electric Weasel Ensemble.
