Cheb Hasni (الشاب حسني), born in 1968, was an Algerian Raï singer from Oran. Regarded as "The King of Sentimental Music" and "The Legend of Raï Music ", his contribution to music made him one of the most celebrated Algerian artist of the late 20th century. In 1994, the 26-year-old artist was gunned down outside his home in Oran by members of an Islamic fundamentalist terrorist group. He was the first Raï singer to be assassinated in the Algerian civil war. He had released about 150 albums in 8 years.
