Bror Beckman

Swedish composer, born February 10, 1866 in Kristinehamn, died July 22, 1929 in Ljungskile.


He studied for Johan Lindegren 1885-1890 and Julius Bagge. 1894-1896 he was a music fellow. He was a teacher at the Stockholm Music Institute in harmony, counterpoint and composition 1890–1902. Beckman was elected member number 516 of the Royal Academy of Music on April 28, 1904. He was chamberlain in the academy 1909–1918 and director of the Stockholm Conservatory of Music 1910–1929. He became a professor in 1911. From 1915 he was a music consultant at the Royal Folk High School and National Board of Education.
