Billy Ball was an artistic alias adopted by Belgian journalist and musician, Bert Bertrand (1955—1983), for his appearances with New Wave/synthpop/post-punk novelty band The Bowling Balls. Initially devised as a purely fictional "favorite group" of the main protagonists in "Germain and us…" comic strip published by prolific Franco-Belgian magazine Spirou, the Bowling Balls subsequently became a full-fledged independent hoax and ultimately transformed in the real-life music ensemble.
