Polynesian/Hawaiian jazz vibraphone and marimba player. Born: February 2, 1932, in US territory of Kauai, Hawaii. Died: February 24, 2002, Honolulu, Hawaii (age 70). One of the people credited with creating the musical genre Exotica, which is noted for Afro-Cuban rhythms, unusual instruments, jungle animal sounds, and romantic tone. 1990: Winner of a Nā Hōkū Hanohano Lifetime Achievement Award under the auspices of the Hawai'i Academy of Recording Arts.
