Amsterdam Sinfonietta

Dutch chamber orchestra founded in 1988 as Nieuw Sinfonietta Amsterdam with Lev Markiz as its first artistic director. In 1995 Candida Thompson became their concertmaster followed by her appointment as artistic director in 2003. As of that season the orchestra changed its name to Amsterdam Sinfonietta and became a conductor-less orchestra, only inviting one if needed for certain projects.

- Nieuw Sinfonietta Amsterdam and Amsterdam Sinfonietta are one and the same orchestra linked through the Alias function. When entering releases or credits please use the name as printed on release.
- for a short period in the 70s there was an earlier, unrelated orchestra called Amsterdam Sinfonietta conducted by Willem Frederik Bon. When entering releases or credits please check wether you should use that orchestra.
