Tzeni Vanou was a Greek easy listening & laïkó singer. Βorn 10 February 1939 in Athens, Greece - Died 5 February 2014 in Nea Smyrni, Athens, Greece.
She had planned on studying physics, but she met her mentor, Μίμης Πλέσσας, who persuaded her to become a singer. She started her career in 1955, as a singer of a easy listening music orchestra, at the [l198541] radio station. On 18 September 1964, she won the first performance prize in the 3rd Easy Listening Song Festival of Thessaloniki with the song "[r=5796079]". She soon established herself as a easy listening singer. In 1969, after giving birth to her son, she left for the US with her family. In 1971, after her return from the US, she made the big turn in her career and with the help of Τόλης Βοσκόπουλος (who wrote two Laïkó songs for her and helped her sign a contract with Minos (2)), she moved into laïkó singing. On 16 September 1977, she competed for the last time in a Song Festival of Thessaloniki, winning the public's performance award with the song "[r=4747486]". She withdrew from singing around 1999 and from 2010, she bought a mini market in Nea Smyrni, Athens, Greece who ran her son (with help from her).
Her real name was Evghenia Vrakhnou, which was changed by [a=Gerasimos Lavranos] so that her father would not recognize her, as he was strongly opposed to her decision to engage in singing. She was sister of [a4382778], mother of [a4326206] & mother-in-law of [a=Κωνσταντίνος Εμμανουήλ].
