宇宙ネコ子

Japanese shoegaze / dream pop duo, formed in 2012 in Kanagawa. Also known as [i]Universe Nekoko[/i] in English. [i]Nekoko[/i] roughly translates to [i]Catgirl[/i] in English (ネコ is the katakana for [i]neko[/i], meaning cat. 子 is the kanji for [i]ko[/i], meaning child, however traditionally many female names ended with 子 as a societal implication for women to be childlike; in the context of the [i]neko[/i] katakana, it can be interpreted as "girl"). Founding member Kо̄hei Tanabe left the group after Kano joined as a vocalist in 2017. Their artwork is illustrated by Tomoko Ōshima.
