Борис Рыжий (1974-2001) (in English: Boris Ryzhy) was a Russian poet. Born in Chelyabinsk in the Ural region, he was still a child when his family moved to Ekaterinburg, then known as Sverdlovsk. He died there in 2001 at the age of 26. He is seen by many as the voice of the final Soviet-era generation and is sometimes referred to as the "Poet of Perestroika". His poems have been widely translated. His family name in Russian means "red-head" and it is variously transliterated as Ryzhy, Ryzji, Ryshi, Rishi and Ryzhii, among others.
