Influenced by the post-punk bands of the time, Trypes (eng: Holes, gr: Τρύπες) were formed in 1983 by Yannis Aggelakas (vocals, lyrics), Giorgos Karras (bass, music by), Michalis Kanatides (guitar) and Kostas Floroskoufis (drums).
In 1984 Babis Papadopoulos replaces Kanatides on guitar. In 1985 they record their debut same-titled album for Ano Kato Records. It was originally released in 500 copies, and repressed a while later with different artwork. In 1986 Floroskoufis is replaced by Yorgos Tolios on drums. They performed live in Athens for the first time at Rodeo club, Kyttaro club and at the open-air amphitheater of Lycabettus, where they supported Dimitris Poulikakos (Δημήτρης Πουλικάκος).
In 1987, with borrowed money they record their second album "Πάρτυ Στο 13ο Όροφο" (Party On The 13th Floor), which was finally released by Virgin Greece. During 1988-1989 the band's appearances became more frequent, performing with Pavlos Sidiropoulos (Παύλος Σιδηρόπουλος) at "Alsos" and "An" club in Exarchia, Athens. In 1990 they release their third album, "Τρύπες Στον Παράδεισο" (Holes In Paradise) and made the first concert outside Greece, in Belfort, France. In 1991 a concert was held at Lykavittos in front of 3.500 fans and also Asklipios Zambetas (of The Mushrooms) joins the band as second guitarist. In 1993 a fourth album was released, titled "9 Πληρωμένα Τραγούδια" (9 Paid Songs). The attendance of their live performance at Lycabettus (again) was 10.000 people. In 1994 they recorded the OST for the film "Η Εποχή Των Δολοφόνων" (Era Of The Murderers) of Nikos Grammatikos. Within the same year, they released "Κράτα Το Σώου Μαϊμού" (Hold The Show Monkey), a compilation of live recordings from four concerts which took place at "Rodon" club and five unplugged songs.
In 1995, Concert tickets were sold out at "Mylos" club (Thessaloniki), "Rodon" club (Athens), Manchester, Eng and "Marquee" club in London. 8.000 tickets were sold for the concert at the "Peace & Friendship" stadium at Pireus. In 1996 they release "Κεφάλι Γεμάτο Χρυσάφι" (Head Full Of Gold), which went gold in two weeks.
