This band began in 1967 as a four-piece psychedelic group. They renamed themselves Egg after the departure of Steve Hillage for college in the sumer of 1968 and slowly changed their musical direction. Egg signed an exclusive record deal with Decca in May 1969, but shortly after, the musicians were contacted by another label to record a psychedelic album. Uriel was then reunited but to avoid legal problems the album was released as Arzachel, with band member also using pseudonyms.
Thus Uriel never released an album under their name during its existence. Only in 2007 did keyboardist Dave Stewart re-issue the Arzachel album under the name Uriel (with Arzachel becoming the title), adding bonus tracks, a full history of the band and much rare pictures to the release.
