Tunes For Bears To Dance To was a short-lived five-piece screamo band from Miami, Florida. They were active from the beginning of 2002 until the end of 2004. However, after a noisy and chaotic first few shows got a positive reaction from the audience, they decided to take it seriously: Tunes added Mike on second vocals and recorded a demo of brand new material. The demo showed a completely new direction in the songwriting. The band was influenced both by 90s noise rockers like Helmet and The Melvins, but also by more recent post-hardcore bands like [a=The Spirit Of Versailles], [a=Jeromes Dream], and [a=Yaphet Kotto]. With all the influences infused together, Tunes created a sound entirely of their own. By 2003, Tunes For Bears was a fully functional five-piece band playing live frequently in the South Florida area. In the summer of 2003, Tunes recorded their debut full-length CD entitled "Asking In Askance". In 2004, Tunes released a self-titled 7" as well as a split 7" with [a=Jesse Washington]. After their August 2004 tour, vocalist Mike Young decided to move to Baltimore. Before leaving, he recorded two last tracks with the band (one being a Helmet cover) that were never released. Tunes For Bears continued to play as a four-piece band for a short period of time at the end of 2004. Four more new songs were written and recorded; two of which ended up on the split with [a=El Minotaur], one of which was only played live a couple times, and one that ended up being re-written and used for Colin and Eric's new band [a=Capsule (5)].
