Puerto Rican singer and vibraphonist (b. January 27, 1920 in San Juan, Puerto Rico – d. September 16, 2002 in Las Vegas, NV).
He studied music at Julliard. Apart from vibraphone, he was able to play four other instruments. In the first half of the 1950s, he made his mark with several jazzy mambo records for RCA Victor and for the Los Angeles-based Latin music label RCA Victor. He took over for Chuy Reyes as the master of ceremonies at the Mocambo nightclub in West Hollywood.
Martinez and his band Tony Martinez And His Mambo Combo, performed in the 1956 musical picture "Rock Around the Clock". From 1957-1963, he also portrayed the Mexican-born ranch foreman Pepino Garcia on the ABC sitcom "The Real McCoys".
