Legendary American disco band that was formed in 1974 by Vincent Montana, Jr., a prominent musician and arranger who had worked with many popular artists in the past, including The Stylistics and The Spinners.
The group was the house band of Salsoul Records and included up to 50 members with instrumental section, arrangers and conductors.
The Salsoul Orchestra was known for their unique blend of Latin and disco music, which was heavily influenced by the soulful sounds of Philadelphia. Their signature sound featured lush string arrangements, funky basslines, and infectious rhythms that made them a favorite among disco fans in the 1970s.
The band released their self-titled debut album in 1975, which featured their hit single "Tangerine". The song became a top 20 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and helped establish the band as a major force in the disco scene.
Over the years, The Salsoul Orchestra released several more successful albums, including "Nice 'N' Naasty" and "Magic Journey", which featured the popular tracks "Getaway" and "Runaway". They also collaborated with other popular artists, including Loleatta Holloway and Charo.
Despite the decline in popularity of disco in the late 1970s, The Salsoul Orchestra continued to perform and record music until 1982 when the band disbanded.
Their music has since been sampled and remixed by many modern artists, and their influence on the disco and dance music genres is still felt today.
