The Razor Skyline

San Francisco-based darkwave quintet. Formed in 1994 by The_Gun ([a5797834]) and [a804111] under the name [a1377529]. They were signed to COP International in the following year, but prior to the release of their debut in 1996 the duo were forced to change their name due to a legal issue, thus 'Journal Of Trauma' became the album's title. The record quickly gained traction from positive feedback by fans & journalists, cementing them into the fusion of Electro, Goth & Industrial communities. Not content on being a studio-only band, The RaZor Skyline set out to find a way to perform live and enlisted a number of musicians over the years to allow them to tour with confidence. This would include the likes of Joelekta ([a1694416]) (who for a time became the band's drummer) and [a712816] of Switchblade Symphony fame. In 1997 Karen left the group for a period, leading The_Gun and Joelekta to bring in [a604781] to provide vocals for the band. However after a trio of singles the band ground to a halt, The_Gun stating that without Karen the chemistry wasn't there, meaning that for a while in 1998 The RaZor Skyline were no more. Later in that year Kim X of COP International coaxed Karen & The_Gun to speak to one another again. This led to the duo overcoming their differences and focus on the music. In 1999 the band released their 2nd album 'Fade And Sustain'. In that time Joelekta had been replaced with Italian-born electro-percussionist [a804112] (AKA Onyx). This new line up would see them tour the US alongside Faith & The Muse and Bella Morte over the course of 2 years. The band's 3rd album 'The Bitter Well' took shape between 2001-2002, with demo recordings taking place at Karen's house in Seattle before moving to Blue Door Studios soon after. It was released the following year. In 2004 the band went on Hiatus. In that time The_Gun & Onyx formed a new project [a867149] with keyboardist [a1071058] & guitarist Trajik. They released a demo EP which was recorded by Mark Pistel of Meat Beat Manifesto. In 2005 attempts were made by The RaZor Skyline to record a new album, but by January of 2007 the group was laid to rest once again. In 2009 various social media pages were made under the groups' name. Originally used as a nostalgic look back at The RaZor Skyline's career, it soon gained legs as fans started to wonder if anything new was on its way. In January 2010 the band released 'Sahara' - their first song in 3 years - onto Myspace, along with news that they would be performing live once again. In March a new line-up was announced online. Alongside The_Gun and Onyx was new vocalist [a2829834], live drummer [a2829832] and synth player Zo (who had migrated from Flatline Transmissions). The group wasted no time, keeping fans up to date throughout the year with news on new recordings and live shows across the US. In August 'The Convergence EP' was released, featuring 3 songs from what would be their return to form with the 2012 album 'The Bitter Well'. In 2018 the band worked alongside the duo Soil & Eclipse on the song 'Sea Of Change'.
