When Mark Volman & Howard Kaylan departed from [url=http://www.discogs.com/artist/Turtles%2C+The]The Turtles[/url] they were embroiled in contract wrangles which prevented them from performing under their own identities. At the start of the '70s the duo hitched up with Frank Zappa as vocalists, toured with the band and were credited on the release [m35621] by their given alias.
The name stuck. They released an eponymous album under the non de plume [r2804312], by which time the nickname had become shortened to "Flo" (Phlo) & "Eddie". An alias by which they continue to perform under - Flo & Eddie.
One highlight of their performances with Zappa was their live rendition of The Turtles' "Happy Together" (on [m53946]), as a pair of 'Fillmore groupies'. The album was released as though a 'bootleg', thus the duo are credited as Volman & Kaylan.
