Dumb Type

Artist collective based in Kyoto, Japan. Since its founding in 1984, Dumb Type continues to engage in an ever broader sphere of international activities. Members include persons trained in the visual arts, architecture, music composition, computer programming and other disciplines, whose collective and multimedia work includes such diverse formats as art exhibitions, performances, audiovisuals and print publications. Each project touches on a variety of social contexts, confronting such themes as AIDS, civilization, nationality, identity, communication (from body language to computer network) being the main subject of research. Dumb Type explores the undefined borders of the information society for new visions of human / system interaction.
