The Love Substitutes formed in 2004, in Antwerp, Belgium, and comprise Mauro Pawlowski on drums & vocals, Rudy Trouvé and Craig Ward on guitars & vocals, and Bert Lenaerts on bass. THey set out to create a music that might sit somewhere between Fairport Convention and Sonic Youth - a direction best exemplified by the song Shanty, from their first album. Folk tunes meet sprawling, atonal improvisation.
