The Hepburns

About

The Hepburns are a Welsh indie band from Llanelli. They formed in January 1985 and have recorded fifteen albums, multiple singles, and four BBC sessions in their 40 year career. Following a two-year tenure at London’s undefined Records from 1987–1989, they have released records on Berkeley-based label undefined, Spanish label undefined, Welsh labels undefined and undefined, as well as on their own undefined label. They toured the US and Scandinavia in 2007.

Born of the post-punk, indie boom of the early-80s, but with their roots in the 1960s, their sound is an amalgam of indie guitar pop with Burt Bacharach, Jake Thackray, and Jonathan Richman, a style fast becoming known in Carmarthenshire as ‘Thackarich’.

On January 1st 2025 they released their 15th final album "Thing of Joy" and announced their retirement after exactly 40 years as a working band.

The current line-up is: Matt Jones (guitar/vocals), Mike Thomas (bass), Les Mun (drums), Sue Reece (keyboards), and Cris Haines (brass).
