The Georgians
The Georgians

Early American jazz band, active 1922-1929.

The Georgians were a band within a band, a small white jazz band formed from members of Paul Specht And His Orchestra, after the model of The Virginians, which consisted of members of the larger Paul Whiteman orchestra.

Between November 1922 and May 1924, the band was headed by trumpeter Frank Guarente. Other members included Arthur Schutt on piano, Russell Deppe on banjo, and Chauncey Morehouse on drums.

In November 1924, with Schutt the last original member, Leo McConville (trumpet) took over from Guarante. In June 1925, he, in turn, was succeeded by Red Nichols (trumpet). The next trumpeter at the helm of the band was Sylvester Ahola (April 1926 to January 1927), followed by Charlie Spivak (November 1928 to November 1929).
