Soul group
Members: [a=Eugene Dixon] (lead), his cousin [a=Shirley Johnson (7)] a.k.a. Shirley Jones (tenor/soprano), [a=James Lowe] (second tenor), [a=Earl Edwards] (baritone) and Ben Broyles (bass voice).
Active in the early 60's Chicago soul scene. Formed in the neighborhood of Englewood. Although they recorded "Duke Of Earl" as a group, [a=Eugene Dixon] took the credit of the tremendous success of the song, and started recording as Gene Chandler (and later, [a=The Duke Of Earl]) at [l=Vee Jay Records]. He was replaced by [a=Charles Davis (4)]. When [a=Eugene Dixon] left the group, his cousin [a=Shirley Johnson (7)] left as well and she was replaced by Margaret "Cookie" Stone. In 1964 the line-up of the group cinsisted of Claude McRae (lead), Richard Dixon, [a=Earl Edwards] and [a=James Lowe]. With this line up they recorded two singles at [l=Jerry-O Records] before disbanding.
