This Sydney (Australia) band began life as Strings And Things in early 1966. The members were all friends who grew up together around Collaroy, on Sydney's northern beaches. After changing their name to The 'A' Sound, they released one single for Festival Records in May 1966. Brother and sister Sid Barnes Jnr (drums) and Helen Barnes (bass guitar), were the children of renowned test cricketer Sid Barnes, a member of Don Bradman's "Invincibles" team. Other members were David Lee (guitar) and Doug Parkinson (vocals, guitar). Late in 1966, Parkinson gave up his day job to become a full-time singer. The 'A' Sound split up and he joined established Sydney instrumental band The Questions, as their singer. It is unknown what the other members did after this band.
