African rumba singer-songwriter and politician from the Democratic Republic of the Congo born 13 November 1940, died 30 November 2013. Along with guitarist Dr. Nico, he pioneered soukous and internationalised his music by mixing elements of Congolese folk music with Cuban, Caribbean, and Latin American rumba.
He's the father of 68 children, including french rapper Youssoupha and perhaps Pegguy Tabu.
