Russian pop girl duo formed in 2000. The name Тату, the Russian transliteration of "tattoo") originated from their decision to refuse to sign any autographs except in the form of a tattoo. A later theory claims the origin is the contraction of the Russian sentence "Та любит ту" (This [girl] loves that [girl]). Afterwards, the producers added the dots between the letters prior to the release of the international edition of their first album because there already existed an Australian band with the same name.
