Little is known about Belize’s most funky combo, The Soul Creations. They backed Nelson Diamond, known to Belize as Mr. Soul, a fixture on Bird’s Isle who scored a massive local hit with a version of Willie Nelson’s “Funny How Time Slips Away.” The Soul Creations were led by Diamond’s brother and recorded their two-part psychedelic funk gem “Funky Jive” while in New York. Though Diamond was purportedly not present during the recording of "Funky Jive." his involvement has become his most enduring legacy. Diamond was murdered in Los Angeles in the mid-1980s, taking with him nearly all knowledge of his life and the band that played behind him.
