She Notes The Chariots was a fairly short-lived emoviolence/screamo band from St. Louis, Missouri. Active from late 2001 to mid-2003, there were several lineup changes in the band throughout its existence, with Matt Tenney being the only constant member. Here is the band's history according to Derek: In the Fall of 2001, Derek Button met and started a band with Matt Tenney. Derek was on vocals, Matt on guitar, and Derek's brother Drew on drums. They practiced for around a month, writing one song before Matt quit for personal reasons. After a couple months, Derek saw Matt at a show and they talked afterwards about wanting to do the band thing again. During this time Derek had also met Brian Potts at school, who wanted to start a band as well. So together they decided to start back up, this time with Brian replacing Derek on vocals and Derek picking up the bass (which he didn't know how to play). So as they practiced, Matt taught Derek how to play the bass until they could find someone to replace him. Matt's friend Bryan wanted to be in the band and played bass, so he joined and Derek shifted over to second vocalist. In late 2001 or early 2002 the band started looking for a second guitar player and came across Shagy, who joined the band after coming to one of their practices. With this lineup the band wrote three or four songs, and in March of 2002 recorded a demo at Penny Studios. This demo was handed out to a select few people and received fairly harsh criticism. It was about this time that Brian left the band and all the songs the band had written were entirely scrapped. After a bunch of practice, the band finally came up with four brand new songs. They set up at least six shows over the summer of 2002, though only one of them happened. The date was July 18, and SNTC were to open for [a=From Autumn to Ashes], [a=Coheed and Cambria], and [a=Shai Hulud]. The show was sold out and SNTC played their set successfully (minus Matt breaking both guitars on stage). The band officially went on a three-month hiatus after this show, during which Matt and Bryan disappeared from contact. The band tried practicing with just Derek, Drew, and Shagy, but when that didn't work out too well, they decided to wait for the band to finally get back together. They started practicing, played another show in November, and decided to record again (this time at Tiny Apertures). The band had a great experience with the guys working there. They finished recording their four-song demo, aptly titled "Winter Demo", and pressed 200 copies total. The first 100 copies had a different logo on the cover than the second 100 and all copies were self-released. Going into 2003 the band played more shows in St. Louis and in Springfield with bands including [a=Most Precious Blood], [a=The Promise (5)], [a=Dispensing of False Halos], [a=The Aleatoric], [a=Salt The Earth], and others. In the summer of 2003 Chris Sommer joined SNTC as second vocalist and the band set up a one-week tour with [a=Sine Nomine (3)] and [a=Phasma Phasmatis]. Just weeks before the tour they recorded a three-song demo titled "Tour Demo" which contained two new songs and a revised version of one song off the Winter Demo. 100 copies were pressed of the Tour Demo, and the band spent even more money on buttons and shirts and embarked on tour. The tour went fairly well, with SNTC becoming close friends with the guys in Phasma Phasmatis and Sine Nomine. However, there was some fighting and bickering, and towards the end (as a matter of fact, right before the last show) Phasma Phasmatis broke up. On the way home the band's van got fucked up somehow, so they had to take an excruciating and sleepless eight-hour drive home at about midnight. When they arrived, Matt began to talk about how they were getting signed to a label and were going to record again, which never happened. They played a show with The Wolves the next day, then another show with Quell and Last Perfection shortly thereafter, but after a completely appalling set Derek and Drew vowed to each other that they were officially done with the band, without telling anyone else yet. Drew ended telling Matt about his and Derek's decision a few days before their next show, so Matt and Bryan got together with Mike (the drummer of Sine Nomine) and taught him a few songs. They played two shows with Mike on drums. Finally, SNTC had a show booked with [a=There Were Wires], [a=Zombi], and [a=Daughters] on August 24th, 2003. Thanks to Shagy's politely (and persistent) nudging, Drew and Derek came back for one last show. They played and that was that; a couple kids moved and clapped when they finished their set, and the band was done. In 2005-6 the DIY label The Sacrosanct Opuscule approached the band with the idea of releasing a discography, which they agreed to. This was released as the "Anthology" CD, containing an intro track, the three tracks from their Tour Demo and the four from their Winter Demo.
