Born August 4, 1932 in Galax, Virginia, USA. Died March 4, 1973 (aged 40) in Nashville, Tennessee, USA.
Son of Ernest Stoneman & Hattie Stoneman. Brother of banjoist Roni Stoneman & mandolinist Donna Stoneman.
Founder of family band The Blue Grass Champs. Stoneman was a member of the famous musical group, 'The Stonemans' (or The Stoneman Family), which also included his mother and father, and six of his 14 siblings.
