Band History compiled by Brian GTA The Scapegoats were formed in the Northern California beach community of Santa Cruz in late 1980 by vocalist Soave Loco (a wild martial arts expert and survivalist who had received his nickname while on a surfing trip to Mexico, where someone in a bar tried to peg Soave in the head with a full can of beer, Soave stabbing it out of the air with a hunting knife), liberal folk musician Henry Hample, and drummer Mark "The Fog" Falge. In February of '81 the band entered the studio and put three tracks to tape before their amicable split with drummer Mark in March of '81. In the summer of '81 the band returned to the studio with new drummer Joey Peters, blasting out ten songs while never quite reaching sobriety the whole time. One track ended up on the Not So Quiet On The Western Front compilation and two more appeared on the Meathouse compilation cassette released by Version Sound out of Ohio (the same label responsible for the Rebel Truth 7"). At the end of '81 Joey left and was succeeded by the third and final Scapegoats drummer, Michael Litton, who recorded with the band in 1982 on their final, 12-song excursion into the studio. Partially frustrated over the fact that no labels seemed interested in releasing an LP for them, the band broke up at the end of '82.
