Sawako

About

Kato Sawako (May 27, 1978 – March 31, 2024) was a Japanese sound artist based in Tokyo and New York. She graduated from Keio University, SFC, Japan, in 2002 where she studied computing culture and sound with Christopher Penrose, as well as environmental information as interdisciplinary research. Sawako's music is deeply contemplative with a strong aleatoric component. The control/uncontrol dialectic comes from her experience in art, documentary video, and workshops for amateur artists. Sawako Kato passed away quietly at her family home in Tokyo on March 31, 2024 as reported by her label 12k.
