Salem was an emo/post-hardcore band from Gainesville, Florida, USA active from August of 2002 to August of 2005. The band formed out of the final line-up of As Friends Rust, following Damien Moyal's departure from the band shortly before a planned national tour. As Friends Rust recruited Adam D'Zurilla on vocals and after the tour guitarist Floyd Beckham left the band. With the addition of new guitarist Jeremy Robertson, As Friends Rust decided to change name to Salem. Drummer Zach Swain left in 2003 and was replaced by [a= David Miller (12)].
In September of 2003 Salem signed with Fiddler Records and their debut EP "Love It Or Leave Me" was released on October 28th 2003. A music video was filmed for "Smoke and Mirrors". In September of 2004 guitarist Joe Simmons left the band and he was replaced by David McNally who joined in November. On October 4th of 2004 "Love It Or Leave Me" was released in the UK by Fiddler Records in anticipation of a UK tour with Johnny Truant. The UK version of the album included a bonus song "Amphetamine Crush". But the band had to pull out of the British tour. In December vocalist Adam D'Zurilla was asked to leave the band. In the spring of 2005 the band welcomed their new signer named Will and had eleven new songs written for a planned debut full-length to be recorded and released before the end of the year. But in August of 2005 Salem announced that they were breaking up. Thomas Rankine (the only remaining original band member) and the majority of Salem's final band members continued playing together and renamed themselves Currents.
