Husband of Jo Shelton and father of engineer Steve Price. Brother of drummer Derek Price.
He played with many local dance bands before forming his own sextet. He studied arranging at the Harrow School of Music.Before entering the session music scene, he learned his trade by playing for many years with dance greats like Teddy Foster and Sydney Lipton. He was a member of Tito Burns Sextet for four and a half years playing alongside Johnny Dankworth and Ronnie Scott.
He gained a reputation as one of the most reliable session musicians in Britain, playing on numerous recordings and film scores. As a session musician he has played or recorded with many of the top talents around including Andy Williams, Burt Bacharach, Cliff Richard, Shirley Bassey, Judy Garland, Sammy Davis, Nelson Riddle, Henry Mancini, Michel Legrand, and many more
