Rita Chao was a very popular Singaporean singer most popular from the mid-1960's to the early 1970's. She was one half of the duo Rita & Sakura, and the duo were considered the A Go-Go Queens at the height of their popularity.


Chao sang in both Mandarin and English, covering several Western hits. Her first release, "Shake, Shake, Shake", was paired with the top Singaporean guitar band The Quests. Instant fame ensued, and Chao worked with The Quests for several more records. Once The Quests moved to Hong Kong, Rita Chao moved onto the next-biggest guitar band: The Surfers. She continued to enjoy success and much popularity with them as well.

Rita Chao passed away from colon cancer in July 2014, at the age of 64.
